James Wright

Staff Software Engineer at Matillion

James Wright has a diverse work experience spanning multiple companies and roles. James began their career as a Library Assistant at the University of Chester in 2009. In 2011, they became a self-employed Freelance Web and Software Developer.

In 2012, James joined Sky as an Associate Software Engineer, where they developed software using agile methodologies and focused on the Xbox 360 client. James later transitioned to the role of Software Engineer, working on the Sky News website and NOW TV's Windows 8.1 app.

In 2015, James joined THE NET-A-PORTER GROUP as a Software Engineer, where they developed web apps for the In-Season Product Team using ECMAScript 2015, React, Redux, Sass, and Node.js.

James then worked as a Senior Software Engineer on contract for Channel 4, contributing to the development of features and apps with JavaScript, Node.js, React, and Redux.

James then joined YLD in 2017, first as a Senior Software Engineer on contract, contributing to various projects and libraries. James later became a Software Engineer and Consultant at Trainline, working on mobile and desktop websites with TypeScript, React, Redux, RxJS, and Node.js. James also worked with The Times as a Consultant, collaborating on React and React Native component library development.

From 2018 to 2019, James continued working at YLD as a Software Engineer and Consultant, focusing on JavaScript-based engineering projects and establishing a development team in Manchester. James also worked with Condé Nast International and FYE as a Consultant, improving SEO and website performance, respectively.

In 2020, James joined Peak as a Senior Software Engineer, contributing to a multi-tenanted SaaS AI system using various technologies. James also worked at Evergreen Life as a Senior Software Engineer, building new features for their mobile app.

Currently, James is a Staff Software Engineer at Matillion, where they are involved in building a next-generation billing platform and extending the Matillion Hub with new features. James leverages technologies such as Go, Java, Spring Boot, React, TypeScript, and AWS.

James Wright completed their Bachelor of Arts (Honors) degree in Computer Science and French at the University of Chester from 2008 to 2012. Additionally, they obtained certifications such as Professional Scrum Master™ I (PSM I) from Scrum.org in June 2022, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner from Amazon Web Services (AWS) in April 2020, and Mathematics for Machine Learning: Linear Algebra from Imperial College London in November 2019.
