Sofia Costa, Ph.D. (Ana S. H. Costa) has extensive experience in research and laboratory management. Sofia began their career in 2003 as a Research Assistant at Estação Zootécnica Nacional. In 2007, they moved to Instituto Superior Técnico as a Research Assistant. Sofia continued their research career at the Technical University of Lisbon - UTL as a Research Assistant in 2008. In 2009, they began their Doctoral studies in Veterinary Sciences at the University of Lisbon. In 2013, they took on a Visiting Postdoctoral Researcher role at the University of Barcelona. From 2014 to 2019, they held the roles of (Graduate) Research Assistant and Research Associate | Postdoc at the University of Cambridge. Sofia then moved to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory as a Research Investigator and Metabolomics Core Manager in 2019 and a Research Investigator in 2021. Most recently, they have been working as a Principal Scientist at Matterworks since 2022.

Sofia Costa, Ph.D. (Ana S. H. Costa) has a comprehensive educational background. In 1997, they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Zootechnical Engineering and Animal Production from the Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro. From 2003 to 2006, they earned a Master of Science degree in Animal Production from the Technical University of Lisbon - UTL. In 2009, they completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Veterinary Sciences from the University of Lisbon. Sofia is also currently enrolled in a Bioinformatics and Computational Biology program at the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa. In addition, Sofia Costa, Ph.D. has obtained various certifications, including Investigators/ Research Staff from the CITI Program (2021), 2020 Academy Ambassador from The New York Academy of Sciences (2020), ACS Reviewer Lab from the American Chemical Society (2020), Credly Member from Credly (2020), Certified Peer Review Course from Elsevier Researcher Academy (2019), Financial Conflicts of Interest in Research from the CITI Program (2022), and Certificate of Proficiency in English from the University of Cambridge.
