Stephen Cannella

As co-Editor in Chief of Sports Illustrated, Stephen Cannella oversees SI’s flagship magazine and leads the editorial strategy and staff at SI and The Street in collaboration with Ryan Hunt. Steve has been with SI since 1995 and has held numerous roles as a writer, editor and member of SI’s editorial leadership team. He was named co-Editor in Chief in 2019.

Over his career Steve has been a premium content creator across SI’s print and digital platforms. He has written several magazine cover stories, overseen multiplatform coverage in various verticals and been the editorial lead and an executive producer for SI’s Sportsperson of the Year franchise and television production. In the first year of his and Ryan Hunt’s leadership, SI’s magazine audience reach grew by 19% as measured by the Alliance for Audited Media. Steve holds a degree from Boston College in English literature and mathematics.
