Charlie Wedgwood

Head of Carbon at McGee Group

Charlie Wedgwood is the Head of Carbon at McGee Group. Prior to joining McGee Group, Charlie worked at Walter Lilly from September 2016 to March 2017. At Walter Lilly, Charlie held the positions of Temporary Works Designer/Assistant Design Manager/Site Manager. In these roles, Charlie was responsible for on-site structural design review of permanent works proposals, temporary works design and coordination, permanent works and temporary works coordination, steelwork subcontractor management, temporary works subcontractor management, and advising on structural steelwork programming.

One of Charlie's most notable projects was the conversion of a property on Upper Belgrave Street into a single private residence. This project involved major internal alterations to a Grade II* listed early Victorian stuccoed end of terrace building; including the removal of a major chimney and the Northerly corner of the building, both at lower ground and upper ground floor level. Structural work also included a new mansard roof and the lowering of the existing basement for a car stacker. The structural works also included the restoration of the original stone cantilevered staircase.

Due to the nature of the project, key structural considerations included temporary stability of the building, health & safety procedures, designing a safe method of works, back propping of existing structures, limiting any movements as a result of demolition of existing load bearing structure, and limited access with strict logistical planning procedures.

Charlie Wedgwood attended the University of Leeds and received a MEng Hons in Civil & Structural Engineering.

Charlie Wedgwood reports to Seb Fossey, Managing Director. Some of their coworkers include Marc Bryne - Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, Martina Oyite - Head of Learning & Development, and Bevan White - Finance Director.
