Karen B. Cooney

VP, Tax Services Group at Meaden & Moore

With extensive tax research and consulting, Karen has dealt with a wide variety of complex tax issues on behalf of corporate entities, partnerships, and tax-exempt organizations, among others. Her background includes drafting and submission of private letter ruling requests, working with Internal Revenue Service personnel and assisting with mergers and restructurings. On behalf of tax-exempt organizations, she has consulted on matters such as unrelated business income, charitable giving strategies, and private foundation status.

Karen also maintains a specialty in the area of employee benefits and compensation. She provides advice on all aspects of designing, funding and operating retirement and welfare benefit plans. She has worked with a number of clients to correct and clarify plan operational concerns.

A part-time faculty member at The University of Akron and Cleveland State University, Karen also is a frequent public speaker. She has presented at events sponsored by The University of Akron Alumni Association, Ohio Society of CPA’s, Cleveland Bar Association, United Way Services, American Cancer Society, and American Society of Women Accountants.
