John Berdahl has a long and varied work experience. From 1999 to 2005, they served as Chairman of the Mathematics Department at Hills Beaver Creek High School. From 2005 to 2008, they were an Ophthalmology Resident at Duke University. From 2008 to 2009, they were a Fellow in Cornea, Glaucoma and Refractive Surgery at Minnesota Eye Consultants. In 2014, they founded and served as Chief Medical Officer of Equinox Ophthalmic, Inc. In 2018, they co-founded Melt Pharmaceuticals. In 2019, they co-founded ExpertOpinion.MD. Since 2009, they have also been an Ophthalmologist at Vance Thompson Vision.

John Berdahl completed their Bachelor's Degree in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology from Augustana University (SD) in 1999. John then attended Mayo Clinic School of Medicine, where they earned their Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) in 2004. Following this, they completed a Transitional Internship Year at Mayo Clinic Scottsdale in 2005. In 2008, they completed their Residency Training in Ophthalmology from Duke University School of Medicine. John then went on to complete a Fellowship in Cornea, External Disease, Glaucoma, and Refractive Surgery from Minnesota Eye Consultants in 2009.
