Chris Sousa-Wynn started their work experience in 2004 as a Resident Scenic Designer at PCPA Theaterfest, where they supervised a scenic design studio and designed multiple productions annually. Chris then worked as a Visiting Lecturer in Scenic Design at Central Washington University from 2007 to 2008, teaching courses and designing scenery and lighting. From 2008 to 2011, they served as an Assistant Professor and Head of Design at the University of New Mexico, overseeing their BA program in Production for Performance and designing productions. Chris later joined Texas State University as an Assistant Professor from 2011 to 2013, where they designed scenery, lighting, and projections, and taught courses in Scenic Design and Production.
In 2013, Sousa-Wynn transitioned to the role of Technical Design Studio Manager at All Access Staging and Productions, Inc. Chris managed and designed custom elements and scenery for concerts, television, and corporate events. From 2016 to 2018, they worked as a Design Manager and Senior Creative Designer at Adirondack Studios, where they managed the creative and technical design for major projects owned by Universal Studios, the Walt Disney Company, and other high-profile clients. Chris also oversaw the day-to-day operations of the Los Angeles satellite office.
Sousa-Wynn then joined Meow Wolf in 2022 as a Senior Production Designer. Their responsibilities at the company include designing and overseeing the production of various projects.
Throughout their career, Sousa-Wynn has gained extensive experience in freelance scenic design, production design, art direction, 3D modeling, and drafting. Chris has worked on projects such as the Shamu Express Station and Concessions at SeaWorld in San Antonio, the SportNet LA Dodgers and Lakers Set, the Big Ten Network Set, the Yahoo Santa Monica Studio, and the Biggest Loser Finale. Chris has also collaborated with regional theater companies on numerous scenic designs.
Chris Sousa-Wynn earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Arts and Studio Art from California State University, Fresno, where they attended from 1995 to 2000. They later pursued a Master of Fine Arts degree in Drama with an emphasis in Scenic Design at UC Irvine between 2001 and 2004. In addition to their formal education, Chris Sousa-Wynn also obtained two certifications: "Finding and Benefiting from a Mentor" and "Inclusive Leadership," both from LinkedIn, in January 2023.
