Sylwia Figarska

Sylwia Figarska, PhD, is an accomplished professional in the field of drug discovery and bioinformatics, currently serving as Associate Director of Cardiometabolic Drug Discovery Data Science at Merck since September 2025. Prior to this role, Figarska held positions including Senior Scientist and Scientist II at Tenaya Therapeutics from January 2022 to September 2025, and worked as a Bioinformatician at UMCG from October 2019 to December 2021, focusing on improving clinical outcomes for heart failure patients through the analysis of clinical and multi-omics datasets. Figarska's postdoctoral experience includes research on the genetics of diabetes and cardiovascular disease at Stanford University, as well as ancient genome analysis at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Earlier in the career, Figarska served as a Research Affiliate at the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine, studying the senescence of human adipose tissue. The academic background includes a PhD in Genetic Epidemiology from the University of Groningen and an MS in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Lodz.
