Tim Aynsley

Head Of Technology at Mercury

Tim Aynsley has a diverse work experience spanning various industries. Tim began their career as a Project Manager at MMI Insurance in 1999 and later worked as a Rugby Player/Coach at Lousa Rugby Club in Portugal. In 2000, they joined New Zealand Rugby as a Senior Business Analyst and played a key role in implementing the ACC accredited employer program.

From 2002 to 2003, Tim worked as a Service Delivery Manager at Cara Group and also had a brief stint as a Consultant at ADMP. In 2004, they joined Spark Digital NZ as a Customer Operations Manager and later became a Client Services Manager, taking on leadership roles in the ACC and IAG outsourcing engagements.

Tim's career in the technology sector began in 2011 when they joined IAG as the Head of Infrastructure, responsible for leading the Infrastructure capability. Tim subsequently took on roles such as Head of Operations, Chief Technology Officer, Director of Infrastructure, Core Platforms & Digital, and Director of Digital & Core Platforms. In these roles, they focused on technology modernization, strategy execution, and leading large teams to deliver exceptional customer experiences.

In 2019, Tim joined Mercury NZ as the Head of ICT and later became the Head of Technology following the acquisition of Trustpower Retail business. In these roles, they led the Technology team, overseeing the merging of the two companies' technology functions and driving digital business outcomes.

Throughout their career, Tim has demonstrated strong leadership, expertise in technology management, and a focus on delivering operational and change program commitments.

Tim Aynsley attended St Kevins College from 1986 to 1990, but it is not specified whether they earned a degree or specialized in any field of study during that time. From 1991 to 1994, they pursued a degree in Physical Education and Science at the University of Otago, graduating with a Bachelor of Physical Education (Honors). Continuing their educational journey, from 1996 to 2001, Tim attended NZ Open Polytechnic and obtained a Bachelor of Business (BBus) in Information Systems and Technology. In 2014, they attended the Mt Eliza Business School for a short period to complete a program titled "Leading for Organisational Impact: the Looking Glass Experience" in the field of Executive Leadership.
