Steve Claborne has extensive work experience in the international development field. Steve started their career as a Peace Corps Volunteer from 1983 to 1985. Steve then worked as a Program Officer at the Federation EIL from 1988 to 1989. From 1990 to 1996, they held various roles, including Country Director and Deputy Country Director, at The Asia Foundation. Steve joined UNICEF as a Program Officer in 1996 and worked there until 1997. Steve then became a Program Director at the Consortium for International Development from 1998 to 1999. Steve joined Mercy Corps in 1999 and served as a Director until 2015. Steve later became a Country Director at Peace Corps from 2015 to 2019. Currently, they are the Director of Strategic Leadership at Mercy Corps since March 2023.
Steve Claborne has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in International Business from the University of Phoenix, which they received in 1999. Steve also has a Master's degree in International Affairs from Ohio University, which they earned in 1987. In 1980, they completed their Bachelor's degree in Geography and Regional Development at the University of Arizona.
