Charlotte Berkes

Chair and Associate Professor, Biology at Merrimack College

Charlotte Berkes has extensive experience in biology education and research, currently serving as an Associate Professor of Biology at Merrimack College since July 2010, where courses taught include microbiology, immunology, and genetics lab, alongside directing undergraduate research in antifungal drug discovery and pathogen interactions. Prior to this role, Charlotte held a position as a Visiting Scientist at Northeastern University from January 2018 to August 2019, collaborating with the Lewis Lab Antimicrobial Discovery Center to enhance techniques for identifying novel antifungal compounds. Charlotte's foundational research took place at the University of California, San Francisco as a Postdoctoral Scholar focused on fungal pathogenesis from November 2005 to July 2010, and as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Colorado College, where courses in cell biology and genetics were taught. Educationally, Charlotte earned a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Washington and a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Penn State University.
