Sayantan Mitra

Sayantan Mitra has a strong background in protein science and engineering, with experience in various roles at different companies. Sayantan is currently serving as the Director of Protein Science (Cell Therapy) at Metagenomi. Prior to this, Sayantan worked as an Independent Consultant from July 2023 to October 2023. Sayantan previously held the position of Director, Head of Protein Sciences at Medikine, Inc., where they were responsible for setting up a protein sciences lab, leading antibody discovery projects, and developing bacterial expression systems for protein crystallography. Sayantan also worked as a Principal Scientist and Group Leader, Protein Sciences at Pionyr Immunotherapeutics, where they managed and supervised the daily operations of the Protein Sciences/Engineering group. Before that, they were a Senior Scientist, Protein Engineering at CytomX Therapeutics and Scientist II: Antibody Engineering and Protein Science at Compugen USA, Inc. Sayantan's earlier experience includes roles as a Scientist II: Chemical Biology and Protein Purification at Clontech, a Postdoctoral Associate at Sanford-Burnham Institute for Medical Research, and a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Southern California. Throughout their career, they have demonstrated expertise in developing and optimizing protein engineering techniques, antibody discovery, and protein purification methods.

Sayantan Mitra completed a Ph.D. in Chemistry/Chemical Biology from the University of Southern California from 2003 to 2007. Prior to that, they obtained a Master's degree in Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, spanning from 2001 to 2003. Sayantan began their educational journey by pursuing a B.Sc. Honors in Chemistry at Delhi University from 1998 to 2001.
