Øystein Godøy

Head Of Division For Remote Sensing And Data Management at METEOROLOGISK INSTITUTT

Øystein Godøy has a diverse work experience in the field of meteorology and data management. Øystein started their career at the Norwegian Meteorological Institute in 1994 as a Scientist, focusing on satellite remote sensing of clouds and weather phenomena. Øystein also worked on satellite data processing and calibration during their time at the institute. In 1998, they became a Senior Scientist, where they extended their work to include satellite remote sensing of clouds, snow, and ocean sea ice. Øystein also developed scientific software in this role.

In 2011, Øystein joined the University of Bergen as a Research Fellow, where they were involved in climate research using time series analysis and bulk parametrizations of surface energy fluxes. Øystein also worked extensively on software development for this research.

In 2015, Øystein became a member of the Resource Allocation Committee at UNINETT sigma2, contributing their expertise in data management and allocation of resources. Øystein also served as a Committee Member at Norges forskningsråd from 2011 to 2014.

Since 2016, Øystein has been working at SIOS - Svalbard Integrated Arctic Earth Observing System as a Data Manager, overseeing data management processes and ensuring efficient data integration across various centers.

In 2018, Øystein took on the role of Head of Division for Remote Sensing and Data Management at the Norwegian Meteorological Institute. This role involves interpretation of satellite measurements and distributed data management, with a focus on sea ice, snow, surface irradiance, and integration of data across national and international data centers.

Throughout their career, Øystein has demonstrated expertise in satellite remote sensing, scientific software development, data management, and climate research.

Øystein Godøy obtained their Cand. Scient. degree in Meteorology from the University of Bergen (UiB) between 1984 and 1991. Following this, they pursued further education at the same institution and completed a Dr. Scient. degree in Oceanography from 1991 to 1998.
