Nick Christensen has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Nick is currently the Principal Public Affairs Specialist and Media Relations Lead at Metro, a regional government in Portland, Oregon. In this role, they serve as the primary point of contact for non-ICS media inquiries, advises staff and the elected Metro Council on media issues, and acts as a spokesperson when necessary.
Previously, Nick worked as the Principal Public Affairs Specialist for the Metro Council Office, where they supported 7 elected officials and their staffs in communications strategy and content. Nick also served as the Interim Chief of Staff for the Metro Council Office, managing discussions about policy, strategy, and communications for Metro Council President Lynn Peterson.
Before joining Metro, Nick was the News Editor at Metro News, where they led a new model of agency communications and outreach, providing analysis and insight on Metro practices and programs. Nick was also responsible for producing copy, editing photos, designing graphics, and managing parts of the external media website.
Additionally, Nick has experience outside of the government sector. Nick worked as a Tour Writer for GuideAlong, where they wrote the initial draft of the Oregon Coast guide for their GPS-based travel guide. Nick has also held positions in community development efforts, serving as the President and Chair of the Lents Neighborhood Association and leading the coordination of the Ramona Street Fair.
Earlier in their career, Nick worked as a Web Editor and Reporter for the Hillsboro Argus, covering news stories in Oregon's second most populous county. Nick was also the Managing Editor for three newspapers within the Greenspun Media Group, managing a team and producing news sections. Nick had a similar role as the Managing Editor for the Summerlin Home News.
In addition, Nick has experience in sports reporting, working as a Sports Reporter for the Las Vegas Sun and covering events such as baseball, hockey, and high school sports. Nick also worked as a Producer for Clear Channel Radio.
Throughout their career, Nick has demonstrated strong communication, strategy, and coordination skills in various roles, both within government and outside of it.
Nick Christensen attended the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from 1999 to 2004.
