Hector C. Lugo

Hector C. Lugo is the Compliance Officer and Office of Compliance and Regulatory Services for the University of Michigan Health-West and a member of the Senior Leadership Team. Experienced compliance and contract professional who ensures adherence with all laws, rules and regulations that govern delivery of health care. Responsible for University of Michigan Health-West’s commitment to meeting the highest standards of business practice and professional ethics. He leads University of Michigan Health-West’s compliance, privacy, internal audits and accreditation service lines, respectively. In this role, Lugo reports to the President and Chief Executive Officer and to the compliance committee of the board of directors. Background includes administration of corporate compliance and contract management due diligence, corporate training and education, audits and effective monitoring of fraud, waste and abuse (FWA). Lugo previously worked in the private sector representing patients and health systems in Administrative Law claims before Administrative Law Judges and opposing counsel. Trained in business administration, with professional experience in case management, social security sequential analysis, probate and circuit court reviews, legal research and data analysis. Bilingual (English and Spanish) with recognized skills in leadership, project management, conflict resolution, organizational development and case management.
