The Role

Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Assistant Controller will be based out of our American Canyon office in Napa Valley. Mezzetta is a family-owned company that has been built on a foundation of the utmost quality in its products and its people. 

The Assistant Controller is responsible for managing and developing the accounting operations team to achieve a high level of performance for the receivables, payables and general accounting processes, consistently producing accurate and timely results and maintaining strong internal control.  

What You'll Do

  • Manage an accurate and timely monthly accounting close to include maintaining the close schedule, preparing journal entries, preparing reconciliations, reviewing results, and preparing financial reports. 
  • Manage the Accounts Payable team to ensure that supplier payments are authorized, accurate and timely, including management of the employee reimbursement process and corporate card programs.  
  • Assist in the treasury, tax and risk management activities to include cash forecasting, reporting and reconciliation. 
  • Maintain a strong system of internal controls over the accounting operations to mitigate financial risks to include developing and maintaining policies and standard operating procedures. 
  • Coach and develop the accounting operations team to achieve performance targets and goals by establishing goals, monitoring performance, and providing regular feedback and training. 
  • Optimize processes to achieve targeted efficiency and effectiveness, including reviewing, evaluating, and improving procedures and systems. 
  • Coordinate with the finance teams on budgeting, analysis of financial results and providing insightful ad-hoc reporting the drives action and positive results. 
  • Coordinate with outside accountants and government agencies on statutory reporting matters.

Who you are and What you'll need for this position

  • 5-7 years of prior manager accounting experience in a manufacturing environment with specific supervisory experience in Accounts Payable.
  • Experience with general ledger functions, monthly preparation of financial statements, and the month-end/year-end closing process. 
  • Excellent functional user of the full range of Microsoft Office products. Advanced excel skills.  
  • Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures and principles with associated analytical and accounting skills. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly explain accounting concepts to a variety of audiences, and ability to influence and present analytics to management 
  • Accuracy and attention to detail with deadline orientation. 
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies. Able to work independently with minimal direction and as part of a team. Willingness to take on new tasks with all levels of difficulty. Believe in celebrating and sharing the little things that make life special. 

Education

  • BS in Accounting, Finance, Business or associated area required. 
  • CPA or working towards Certification preferred. 
Pay Range
$130,000$145,000 USD
