Mike Phelps has extensive experience in the field of fire services and public safety. Mike is currently the Division Chief at the Portage Department of Public Safety Fire Division. In this role, they oversee the division and ensures its smooth operation. Prior to this, they worked as an Adjunct Instructor at Ferris State University. Mike also served as the Administrative Chief at the Michigan International Speedway, where they were responsible for ensuring fire safety compliance during race events. Before that, Mike was the Deputy Director of Fire Services at the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety, where they managed fire operations and implemented fire-related policies. Mike started their career at the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety as a Training Officer, overseeing EMS and fire training and managing academies.
Mike Phelps completed their high school education at Mattawan High School from 1980 to 1984. Mike did not obtain a degree or specialize in any field of study during this time. In terms of additional certifications, Mike obtained a Medical First Responder certification from the State of Michigan in December 2014. Mike also has certifications in EMS Instructor Coordinator, Fire Instructor I, Firefighter I and II, NIMS ICS 300, and NIMS ICS 400, however, the specific dates of obtaining these certifications are not provided.
