Sarah Richardson

CEO at MicroByre

Sarah Richardson is currently the CEO of MicroByre. Prior to that, they were a distinguished postdoctoral fellow in genomics at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory from March 2012 to August 2016. In this role, Sarah developed broadly applicable tools and protocols for genetic work in both model and non-model organisms, designed low-risk heterologous expression constructs for model and non-model organisms, taught other scientists how to use CRISPR-Cas9 in both Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Escherichia coli, wrote internal and external grants, engaged in strategic planning around designed biological systems for the division, developed computer-assisted synthetic CRISPR design algorithms, taught a weekly class on programming in python for beginners, taught a molecular biology and genetics bootcamp for software developers, engaged in public outreach at grade schools, community colleges, and media conferences, led public tours of the laboratories, mentored summer students and undergraduates.

Sarah began their academic career as a graduate research assistant at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in June 2008 and August 2008. Sarah then became a Ph.D. candidate at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine from January 2005 to December 2011.

Sarah Richardson's educational career began at Roland Park Country School, where they received their high school diploma. Sarah then went on to study biology at the University of Maryland, where they earned their B.S. Finally, they attended The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where they earned their Ph.D. in human genetics and molecular biology.
