Josef Liem

Undergraduate Researcher at Middlebury College

Josef Liem is an undergraduate researcher at Middlebury College, involved in research focusing on genotyping structural variants utilizing machine learning methods at the Linderman Lab since January 2025. Prior to this position, Josef served as the president of MiddDev, an organization dedicated to programming and software development initiatives from February 2022 to January 2025. Additional research experience includes a role at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, working on group equivariant deep learning methods for neuroimaging in the Tward Lab during the summer of 2024, and developing machine learning models for tumor detection at the Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute at the University of Utah in the summer of 2023. Josef also participated as a teaching assistant in computer science and contributed to the Student Government Association at Middlebury College from October 2021 to June 2024, and gained research experience at Oregon Health & Science University in 2022. Josef holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Biology from Middlebury College, expected in 2025, and completed a high school diploma at Oregon Episcopal School in June 2021.
