Vice President, Engineering at Millennium Space Systems

Matthew Smith's work experience includes a variety of roles in the aerospace industry. Matthew started their career as a Research Intern at NASA, where they worked on the conceptual design and analysis of hypersonic launch vehicles. Matthew then joined Virginia Tech as a Research Assistant, focusing on attitude determination algorithms and orbital debris detection. Matthew later worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at NASA Langley Research Center, where they developed prediction tools for jet/airframe noise and analyzed the aerodynamics and acoustics of jet flows. Matthew then moved to Boeing, where they served as a Guidance, Navigation, and Control Engineer, leading flight operations development and spacecraft mission automation projects. Matthew also worked at Millennium Space Systems, first as a Senior Mission Operations Engineer supporting ground and flight operations, and later as a Deputy Program Manager & Chief Systems Engineer and Space Mission Program Manager, overseeing satellite development programs and leading engineering teams. Most recently, they joined SpaceX as a Mission Manager for Special Programs. Currently, Matthew is working as the Vice President of Engineering at Millennium Space Systems, where they are responsible for leading and growing the Engineering department to meet technical and budget commitments.

Matthew Smith has a strong educational background in the field of Aerospace, Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering. Matthew pursued a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in this field from Virginia Tech, graduating in 2012. Prior to that, they attended First Colonial High School from 2003 to 2007, but no specific degree or field of study was mentioned.
