Tony Worby

Tony Worby has a diverse work experience in the scientific field. Tony is currently serving as the Chief Scientist at Minderoo Foundation since November 2023. Prior to this role, they held the position of Executive Director Oceans at the same foundation from August 2023 to November 2023. Tony also worked as the Director - Planet Portfolio & Flourishing Oceans from June 2020 to August 2023. Before joining Minderoo Foundation, Tony worked at CSIRO as the Director - Oceans & Atmosphere from August 2017 to June 2020. Tony also served as the CEO of the Antarctic Climate and Ecosystems Cooperative Research Centre from July 2014 to August 2017. In addition, Tony worked at CSIRO Division of Marine and Atmospheric Research as the Deputy Chief - Marine Research from November 2011 to June 2014. Tony started their career at the Australian Antarctic Division, where they held the position of Program Leader for Climate Processes from February 2010 to November 2011 and Principal Research Scientist from May 2005 to February 2010.

Tony Worby earned a PhD in Antarctic Glaciology from the University of Tasmania in 1998. Prior to that, they completed a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Oceanography and Meteorology from Flinders University from 1986 to 1988. In 1989 to 1990, they pursued Antarctic Studies and achieved an Hons I degree from the University of Tasmania. In terms of executive education, in 2013, they completed a Certificate in Executive Management and Development from AGSM @ UNSW Business School. Additionally, in the same year, they undertook the AICD Company Directors Course focusing on Corporate Governance from the Australian Institute of Company Directors. In 2012, Tony Worby participated in the Cranlana - Myer Foundation program, which emphasizes Wisdom in Leadership.
