David Ansell has extensive experience in policy and leadership roles within various organizations. David currently serves as the Research and Policy Lead for Thrive By Five at the Minderoo Foundation. Prior to this, they worked at the Telethon Kids Institute as the Director Policy for CoLab, where they were responsible for translating evidence into policy and practice to improve children's development and learning. David has also held positions at the Department of Culture and the Arts Western Australia as Deputy Director General, the Department of the Premier and Cabinet of WA as Director Strategic Issues, the Department of Education WA as Executive Director of the Office of Early Childhood Development and Learning, and the Department of Education and Training WA as Director of Participation. Earlier in their career, they served as the General Manager for The Smith Family in Western Australia, where they established community programs and raised the organization's profile.
David Ansell has a Bachelor of Education in Health and Physical Education/Fitness from Edith Cowan University, which they earned from 1981 to 1984. David later obtained a Graduate Diploma of Health Science (Public Health) from Curtin University in 1991. In 1997 to 1998, they pursued a Master of Philosophy in Education from the University of Cambridge. Finally, in 2009 to 2010, they completed a Master's Degree in Public Administration from The University of Western Australia.
