Carlos Pina Soares

Carlos Pina Soares has a diverse work experience spanning several industries and roles. Carlos Pina started their career in 1993 as a Graduate Student Research Fellow at UNINOVA - Instituto de Desenvolvimento de Novas Tecnologias, where they focused on developing back end C++ applications for building automation systems. Carlos Pina published academic papers based on this work.

In 1995, Carlos joined ViaTecla as a Software Engineer, where they worked for three years before moving to Altitude Software in 1998. At Altitude Software, Carlos held various roles, starting as a Senior Software Engineer responsible for designing and developing telephony back end modules and applications. Carlos Pina then progressed to become the Director of R&D for Voice Automation, where they led agile software development teams and managed the prioritization of valuable contents for the suite. Carlos also served as the Director of R&D for Voice Automation, Integration, APIs, and Interim for Users, and as the Director of R&D for Communications.

Carlos joined Miniclip in 2021 and currently serves as the Senior Development Lead. Carlos Pina is responsible for leading the Miniclip Portugal Game Development Backend team, focusing on developing and operating game backend solutions at scale. Carlos leverages public cloud providers, programming languages, and tools to minimize latency and provide optimized solutions.

Before joining Miniclip, Carlos had a brief experience as a Campus Network Administrator at FCSH/NOVA, where they designed and maintained the campus network infrastructure and associated services.

Throughout their career, Carlos has demonstrated strong leadership skills, the ability to manage and grow engineering teams, and a focus on automation and standardization to enhance productivity. Their areas of expertise include software development, telephony, backend solutions, and agile methodologies.

Carlos Pina Soares has a diverse educational background. In 1988, they began their education at NOVA School of Science and Technology, where they obtained a Licentiate degree in Computer Science Engineering in 1993. From 1993 to 1999, Carlos pursued further studies at NOVA School of Science and Technology and completed a MSc degree in Computer Science Engineering.

In 2002, Carlos enrolled in the Católica Lisbon School of Business and Economics for a Postgraduate program in Advanced Management Program for Executives, which they completed in 2003. Additionally, they attended various short-term courses to enhance their skills and knowledge in specific areas. In 2001, they completed the Essential .NET course at Developmentor, and in 2004, they took the Guerrilla Web Services .NET course at Developmentor.

Carlos also showed an interest in professional development in the field of software development. In 2009, they attended the Project Management for Software Development course at Learning Tree International. In 2011, they took Udi Dahan's Advanced Distributed Systems Design with SOA course at Skills Matter in London, UK. Moreover, Carlos sought to expand their capabilities as a trainer by completing the Initial Training Course for Trainers at Rumos in 2007.
