David Smith

David (DJ) Smith is a seasoned security professional with extensive experience in health, safety, and security practices within the New Zealand Ministry of Justice since 2010. Currently serving as the Manager for Practice, Training, and Improvement, David (DJ) Smith leads a team that supports both Health and Safety and National Security Operations. Previous roles include Court Security Manager and Regional Security Manager, responsible for operational management of court security across multiple regions and ensuring compliance with legislation and standards. With a background in law enforcement as a Senior Constable in the New Zealand Police and service in the Royal New Zealand Air Force and Royal New Zealand Navy, David (DJ) Smith holds several qualifications in security and training, complemented by a strong foundation in operational security, tactical training, and incident management.
