Jeff Johns

Director & Macmillan Fellow, Historic Sites at Minnesota Historical Society

Jeff Johns has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Jeff began their career in 1978, serving in the Air National Guard as a Technical Sergeant for 20 years, specializing in equipment maintenance. In 2002, they joined the Basque Museum & Cultural Center as the Curator of Exhibitions and Collections, where they oversaw various projects related to collections management, exhibit development, and preservation. From 2006 to 2009, they worked at the American Airlines C.R. Smith Museum as an Associate Director, focusing on the redevelopment of the museum experience and the digitization of archival materials. In 2009, they became the Executive Director of the Fort Worth Air & Space Museum Foundation, orchestrating the planning and development of a new aerospace museum. Jeff later joined the Minnesota Historical Society in 2012, taking on roles such as Site Manager II and Director of Greater Minnesota Historic Sites & Partnerships, contributing to the management and direction of various historical sites and partnerships. Overall, Jeff Johns has demonstrated versatility and expertise in the museum and historical preservation fields throughout their career.

Jeff Johns earned a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Museology/Museum Studies from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 2000 to 2001. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in History at Boise State University from 1986 to 1998. Jeff also holds a certificate in Vehicle Mechanics from the Community College of the Air Force, which they obtained in 1978.
