John has more than 15 years of experience working in higher education. He joined the MSU and Student Activities staff in August of 2009, and he has the privilege of advising 7 fraternities and 4 sororities, two governing councils, and two honorary organizations whose members include nearly 450 of MSU's most involved and energetic student leaders. Fraternity and Sorority Life helps students develop their leadership, management, and interpersonal skills, and involvement with a fraternity or sorority will help students make connections with a network of people that extends far beyond the borders of MSU and students' four years here.
John also serves as the advisor to Minnesota State Mankato's Student Government, the Minnesota State Student Association. In that role, he works with student leadership and university administration to advocate for student needs, troubleshoot issues that may arise, and strive to better the Maverick experience for all current and future students.
Additionally, he serves as the university's liaison to the surrounding neighborhood associations and to property managers throughout the Mankato community. The office sponsors the 3 annual housing fairs and maintains a database of available rental properties and apartment complexes within the MSU community. He can help point students in the direction of housing options and can assist with roommate conflicts and concerns with property managers. He does not provide legal advice, but he can refer students to the campus attorney if needed.
