Philip Hirsch

Executive Director, Christian Community And Leadership at Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

Philip Hirsch has over a decade of work experience in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Philip began their career at the Metropolitan Washington D.C. Synod, ELCA in 2009 as the Director for Evangelical Mission and Assistant to the Bishop. In 2019, they were promoted to Executive Director, Christian Community and Leadership at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Philip Hirsch completed their Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Sociology and Anthropology/ Psychology and Religion at Susquehanna University from 1982 to 1986. Philip then pursued a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago from 1986 to 1990. In 1988, they briefly studied at the University of Zimbabwe. Later, from 2005 to 2008, Philip earned a Doctor of Ministry from the United Theological Seminary, with a field of study focused on reducing the propensity for violence among inner city youth through preaching. Philip also had some additional education at the Luther School of Theology at Chicago.
