MLL design, build, and support secure cloud connectivity and its associated components for, predominantly, local government and public sector organisations.  At the core of our organisation is a team of SD-WAN Architects and Technical Design Authorities (TDAs) who are responsible for taking a customer’s project ideas and turning them into reality. We’re one of the only organisations in this sector that have successfully deployed multiple SD-WAN networks, utilising the latest technology.  Alongside our Project Delivery and Solutions teams, our TDAs have been at the core of this work.  

We’re now looking for a Technical Design Authority to join the Network Engineering team.  The purpose of this role will be to work with the customer and the MLL solutions team to create the Low Level Design that will fulfil the customer’s requirements, and then proceed to build the configure the core infrastructure that supports this solution. Once live, the TDA will then work with our wider technology team to move the solution into business as usual (BAU) support.  

The ideal candidate for the role will be a seasoned Network Engineer with SD-WAN experience and a proven track record of building and supporting cloud connectivity for large organisations. Whereas they may not have TDA experience, they will be able to demonstrate their readiness to step up into this role. 

The ideal candidate will possess an attitude and confidence that reassures MLL customers, the ability to work directly with customers as the subject matter expert, and will be comfortable owning the requirements gathering process from a technical perspective.  They will have the ability to produce first class Low Level Designs, and will drive a comprehensive transition into BAU that will ensure first class in-life support for the customer.

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in gathering customer requirements to prepare project plans and timescales of delivery.
  • Work through customer specifications and develop solutions in line with project delivery requirements.
  • Take ownership for technical delivery.
  • Produce High Level and Low Level Network Design documentation
  • Carry out Network Project implementation tasks
  • Work closely with all departments to ensure project and service delivery meet customer expectations
  • Work closely with the Network Engineering Manager to assist in the continual development of the team

Essential Technical Expertise:

  • WAN Network Design

  • Fortinet NSE 7 / FCE level ability

  • CCNP (preferably SP) or equivalent (JNCIS / JNCIP)

  • L3 VPN's network design and Implementation

  • Cisco ASA Firewalls or Palo Alto Firewalls

  • Juniper SRX firewalls

  • Strong BGP routing skills

  • LAN Network Design

  • Knowledge of QoS and deployment

  • Network Monitoring systems (Solarwinds)

  • Consultancy experience (eliciting customer requirements and producing network documentations)

Desirable Expertise/ understanding:

  • Python/ Scripts
  • Coding experience
