Molecular Assemblies, Inc. is a private life sciences company developing an enzymatic DNA synthesis technology designed to power the next generation of DNA-based products. The company’s patented Fully Enzymatic Synthesis™ (or FES™), based on making DNA the way nature makes DNA, produces long, high quality, sequence-specific DNA reliably, affordably, and sustainably. FES technology will enable the reading and writing of DNA for many industries, including industrial synthetic biology and precision medicine, as well as emerging applications of DNA for data information storage, nanomachines, and bio-based electronics. Molecular Assemblies is headquartered in San Diego. 

 

About the Role 

Molecular Assemblies is seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join our team as a Business Development Director. The Business Development Director is responsible for creating sales growth and business partnerships. The individual contributor will develop strategy to improve engagement and product awareness while generating new business leads using various initiatives.  

 

Responsibilities 

  • Responsible for developing a business development strategy and generating new business leads. 
  • Partner with the Executive Team to develop and implement short and long-term objectives.  
  • Consult with management in pursuit of business partnerships, alliances, and joint ventures that enhance the capabilities of the organization. 
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, building a robust pipeline of potential clients, attending key conferences and meetings related to genetic medicine
  • Manage the assessment of potential business opportunities through activities such as market and economic analysis, monitoring competitive activity, and identifying customer needs.
  • Develop high level, strategic relationships to catalyze the sales cycle/process via visits to strategic customer accounts and actively drive the development of top academic and biotech accounts.
  • Navigate client issues, working collaboratively with internal teams to address and provide solutions that will allow deals forward to closure.
  • Develop and present robust financial models and market analyses and terms to various teams including the Executive Team, Investment Review Boards, customers, and partners.  
  • Act as the primary contact for all business development related activities.  
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Sales to promote solutions to other external marketing targets.  
  • Attend various events as a representative of the Molecular Assemblies.  
  • Ad hoc duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field.  
  • 5+ years of experience with business development in biotech, life science or similar industries. 
  • Strong knowledge of biotech, DNA, life science industries.  
  • Product lifecycle management experience including commercialization.  
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively within a team and cross-functionally.  
  • Outstanding organizational, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills 
  • Adaptability, flexibility, and willingness to work in a startup environment.  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), salesforce, and similar tools 
  • Must be able to manage multiple priorities and work well with ambiguity. 
  • Self-starter, highly motivated, results-driven individual; ability to creatively solve problems.
  • Experience preparing and delivering presentations to senior management.
  • Familiarity with biopharma/pharmaceutical portfolio strategy  
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
  • Salary Range: $140,000 – $200,000. The base salary range represents the low and high end of the anticipated salary range for this position. The actual base salary offered for this position will be based on many factors including but not limited to individual performance, location of job, experience, and skills required for this role. This role may be either exempt or nonexempt. This is an onsite position.
