Crystal Canning

Director, Compliance Portfolio Marketing at Molecular Devices

Crystal Canning, Ph.D., has extensive work experience in the field of research and marketing. Crystal began their career in 2002 as an Undergraduate Researcher at UC Davis, where they worked under the supervision of Michael G. Barbour, Ph.D. Crystal then interned as a Cell Biology Intern at the Buck Institute for Age Research, supervised by Christopher Benz, M.D. In this role, they validated a high-throughput screening process for detecting lead oncogene-specific compounds in breast cancer cells.

In 2005, Crystal joined the Buck Institute as a Research Associate, still under the supervision of Christopher Benz, M.D. Crystal'sresearch focused on the variation in pathway activation in breast cancer patients of different ages and subtypes. Crystal worked there until 2007.

Crystal returned to UC Davis in 2008 as a Graduate Student Researcher in the lab of Xinbin Chen, Ph.D., studying the activities of tumor suppressors and their target genes in cancer. During their time at UC Davis, they also worked as a Teaching Assistant for the Biochemistry Laboratory course.

In 2012, Crystal joined Celgene as a Graduate Student Intern in Translational Research. Crystal worked there until 2013.

Since 2013, Crystal has been with Molecular Devices, where they have held various roles. Crystal started as a Technical Support Specialist and then became a Senior Product Manager. Crystal later transitioned to the role of Manager, BioResearch Product Management, and eventually became a Senior Manager, Commercial Marketing. Most recently, they have been serving as the Director of Compliance Portfolio Marketing.

Crystal Canning, Ph.D., obtained their Bachelor of Science degree in Biotechnology and Animal Biotechnology from the University of California, Davis, where they studied from 2000 to 2004. In 2004, they also briefly attended The University of Göttingen for studies in the German Language. Crystal then pursued their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of California, Davis, from 2007 to 2012.
