Lela B. has a diverse work experience that spans multiple industries and roles. Starting in 2016, they worked as a Bank Teller at Fulton Financial Corporation. In 2017, they interned as a Computer Science Intern at Omni Technology Professionals, Inc., where they learned various programming languages and developed applications. Lela continued their internship at the same company in 2018, focusing on software engineering. In the same year, they also conducted research as a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellow at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

In 2019, Lela worked as an Amgen Scholar at Johns Hopkins Biomedical Engineering, further enhancing their research skills. In 2020, they joined Omni Technology Professionals, Inc. as a Software Engineer, contributing to software development projects. Simultaneously, they worked as a Lewis Lab GRA at Cornell University, assisting with research in the laboratory.

Starting in 2021, Lela transitioned to the media industry and joined CNN as a Software Engineer on the Consumer Experience Data Visualization Platform Team. Lela contributed to building real-time, event-driven data pipelines and performed calculations on incoming data. Lela later advanced to the role of Senior Software Engineer, taking on more technical leadership responsibilities and collaborating with the product team.

Currently, Lela is employed at Mon Ami as a Data Engineer, where they build data pipelines and gains experience at this startup company. This role requires a blend of technical, interpersonal, and adaptable skills. Throughout their various positions, Lela has demonstrated a strong passion for helping others and has continuously sought opportunities to expand their skill set.

Lela B. began their educational journey in 2012, attending Sussex Technical High School, where they pursued studies in business finance and marketing. After completing their high school diploma in 2016, they furthered their education at Salisbury University. From 2016 to 2020, Lela pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Computer Science at Salisbury University. Building upon this foundation, they continued their academic pursuits at Cornell University, starting in 2020. At Cornell, Lela focused on Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering, working towards a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree. As of now, they are expected to complete their PhD in 2022.
