James Santilli

Lead Product Designer, APAC at MongoDB

James Santilli has a diverse work experience in the field of product and user experience design. James started their career as a Freelance User Interface Designer at Sentia Australia Pty Ltd in 2010 and also worked as a Freelance Designer at Nicely Strange from 2009 to 2011.

James then joined Community Engine as a User Experience Designer in 2011, where they worked in an agile software development environment. James also founded and managed Designer's Bookshelf, a book review blog for Graphic Designers, from 2011 to 2012.

In 2012, James worked as a Digital Designer at Campaign Monitor. James later worked as a Mobile User Experience Designer at We Are Alive from 2013 to 2016, where they collaborated with experience designers, web developers, and software engineers.

James then joined Learnosity as a User Experience Designer from 2016 to 2017. During this time, they engaged with customers, product owners, and engineers to create usable and unified experiences in assessment products.

In 2017, James joined VMware Tanzu Labs as a Product Designer, where they worked with engineering, design, and product management teams to build better software for customers in Sydney and Singapore.

Most recently, James worked at MongoDB as a Senior Product Designer and later as a Lead Product Designer for Enterprise Tools. Their responsibilities included working on MongoDB Cloud, a unified data platform for modern applications, and utilizing MongoDB's document data model and MQL (MongoDB Query Language).

James Santilli obtained an Advanced Diploma in Graphic Design (Print & Publication) from TAFE NSW, which they completed from 2005 to 2007. James then pursued a Design Masterclass Certificate from Shillington College in 2010. In 2015, they earned a Certificate in Product Management from General Assembly.

In addition to their formal education, James has obtained several certifications. In 2018, they completed courses such as "Cooper Crash Course: Design Thinking in 3 Steps," "Startup How-To: 7 Steps to Creating a Successful Product," and "User Experience Design Fundamentals" from Udemy. In 2019, they obtained certifications in "Design Rules: Principles & Practices for Great UI Design" from Udemy and "Leading without Formal Authority," "Digital Transformation," "Leading and Working in Teams," and "John Maeda on Design, Business, and Inclusion" from LinkedIn.
