Michael Nelson is an accomplished academic currently serving as Associate Professor and Co-Chair of Political Science at Monmouth College since July 2017, while also holding the position of Director at the Center for Civic and Social Change since March 2019. Previously, Michael held various roles at Wesleyan University from August 2008 to June 2017, including Chair of African Studies and Assistant Professor. Michael has contributed to the field through leadership positions, such as Chair of African Studies at Wesleyan University and Newsletter Editor for the African Politics Conference Group. Michael's research and teaching experience is supported by a Doctorate in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Bachelor’s degree from UC San Diego. Early career experiences include serving as a Research Associate at the FAO and a Water and Sanitation Volunteer for the Peace Corps in Ghana.
