Stephen M.

Senior Research Curator at MUSEUM ASSOCIATES

Stephen M. has extensive work experience in the field of art curation and research. Stephen began their career in 1983 as a Graduate Intern at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, where they held various positions including Associate Curator, Assistant Curator, Curatorial Assistant, and eventually became a Curator and Department Head in 1995. In 2005, they were promoted to the position of The Harry and Yvonne Lenart Curator and Department Head of South and Southeast Asian Art. Stephen held this position until 2014, when they became the Senior Research Curator at the museum. In addition to their work at the museum, Stephen also served as the President of the American Council for Southern Asian Art from 2011 to 2014.

Stephen M. completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Asian Studies from the University of Florida, where they studied from 1974 to 1976. Stephen then pursued higher education at the University of Michigan, where they earned a Ph.D. and MA. in Indian Art History and Museum Practice. Stephen M. dedicated 12 years of their academic journey from 1977 to 1989 to their studies at the University of Michigan.
