Joel S. Goodwin II

Dr. Joel Goodwin is board certified in general surgery and surgical critical care, and his clinical interests are emergency surgery, intensive care of surgical patients, complex hernia repairs, advanced laparoscopic surgery, benign and malignant diseases of the colon, and thyroid surgery. Dr. Goodwin is also certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). He is the Medical Director at OmniPoint(Surgical Services, General, Acute Care, Trauma and Surgical Critical Care), in Durham, NC. Education and Training Dr. Goodwin received his medical degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and completed his internship and surgical residency at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, WA, followed by a fellowship in Critical Care in the East Carolina University Department of Surgery at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, NC. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology with Honors from UNC.

He is an assistant professor in the Department of Surgery at the UNC School of Medicine and Adjunct Associate Professor at Campbell University. He was the Chief of Surgery at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson, NC, and Bonner General Hospital in Sandpoint, ID. He is a fellow of The American College of Surgeons and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Goodwin’s research has been published in journals including Ambulatory Surgery and Surgical Endoscopy. He has presented his research at national conventions such as The Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons Annual Meeting.
