John McGrath has an extensive work experience spanning over several organizations. McGrath, started their career in the U.S. Department of Labor as a Writer and Editor from 1977 to 1979, and then as a Media Relations Specialist/Writer and Editor from 1979 to 1986. McGrath then moved on to the National Endowment for the Humanities, where they held the position of Assistant Director for Public Affairs from 1986 to 1991.
In 1991, they joined the U.S. Department of Education and held various roles over the years. McGrath, started as a Producer/Writer from 1991 to 1993, then became the Director of Community Services from 1993 to 2001. McGrath, later served as the Senior Director from 2001 to 2005 and finally as the Deputy Assistant Secretary & Chief of Staff from 2005 to 2012.
Since 2012, McGrath has been working with the National Association for College Admission Counseling as the Deputy CEO.
John McGrath attended Fairfield Prep for an unknown period of time. After completing high school, they went on to Middlebury College, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Literature from 1971 to 1975. Later, from 1978 to 1981, they pursued a Master of Arts degree in American Studies from the University of Maryland.
