Yaw Anokwa, PhD has a long and varied work experience. Yaw began their career in 2000 as the Founder of Anokwa Consulting, a computer-consulting firm for the Macintosh platform. In 2002, they were a Software Engineer (Intern) at Raytheon where they created an application that increased throughput for site-wide document printing by 700%. In 2003, they returned to Raytheon as an Electrical Engineer (Intern), designing and implementing a system to increase the accuracy of F/A-18 radar test equipment. In 2004, they were a Multi-Disciplined Engineer at Raytheon, managing a project to improve digital magnetic anomaly detection for anti-submarine aircraft. In 2006, they were a Research Scientist (Intern) at Intel Corporation, writing a Linux device driver for phones to communicate with custom NFC hardware. In 2007, they were a Software Engineer (Volunteer) at Partners In Health, deploying OpenMRS in a small and rural town in Rwanda. In 2008, they were a Software Engineer (Intern) at Google, designing and implementing Open Data Kit (ODK) tools with Android and App Engine. In 2011, they became the CEO of Nafundi, and in 2018 they became the CEO of Unison Hosting. Finally, in 2020 they became the CEO of ODK.

Yaw Anokwa received their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Science from the University of Washington in 2012. Prior to that, they obtained a Master of Science (M.S.) in Computer Science from the same university in 2007. Yaw also holds two Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees, one in Computer Science from Butler University in 2004 and one in Electrical Engineering from Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis in 2004.
