Michael Benchimol

Senior Director of Engineering at NanoCellect Biomedical

Michael Benchimol has worked in various positions in the engineering and biotechnology industries since 2006. From 2006 to 2010, they were a Graduate Researcher at UCSD Moores Cancer Center, where they developed a novel ultrasound-destructable nanocarrier for externally-targeted chemotherapy. Michael also produced the first ultrasound-quenchable fluorescent particles for high-sensitivity deep tissue imaging. From 2010 to 2012, they were an Engineering Consultant at Engineered Medical Devices, where they developed proof-of-concept/prototype systems for automated object tracking and detection. From 2012 to 2014, they were the Founder and Chief Technology Officer at Sonrgy, Inc., where they recruited renowned scientist and clinician advisors and team of seasoned pharma executives, as well as established collaborations with General Electric and Histogen, Inc. From 2014 to 2016, they were the Chief Engineer and Principal Investigator at Diagnologix, LLC, where they directed the research and development of a novel cell-isolation technology and served as Co-PI of an SBIR grant awarded for circulating tumor cells isolation. Michael also developed and patented a device and consumable for automated sample ejection, detection, and collection. From 2016 to present, they have been at NanoCellect Biomedical, Inc., where they have held the roles of Senior Director of Engineering, Director of Product Development, Director of Operations, Product Manager, Lead Engineer, and Independent Contractor (Senior Scientist). In 2010, they were the Director of Judging for the UC San Diego Entrepreneur Challenge, where they served as lead organizer of a business competition which awards ~$100K annually.

Michael Benchimol received their BS in Electrical Engineering from Boston University between 2002 and 2006. Michael then went on to receive their MS in Photonics from UC San Diego between 2006 and 2008. Finally, they received their PhD in Ultrasound-Responsive Particles for Cancer Diagnostics and Therapeutics from UC San Diego between 2008 and 2012.
