Kathy Surace-Smith

Kathy Surace-Smith has extensive work experience in various leadership roles in the legal and corporate sectors. Kathy served as the Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Legal Affairs at NanoString Technologies, Inc. from 2020 to the present, prior to which they held the positions of Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary at the same company from 2013 to 2020. Before joining NanoString Technologies, Kathy worked as a Principal at Lochleven Consulting PLLC, where they provided strategic legal and business consulting services. Kathy also served as the VP, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary at SonoSite Inc. from 2002 to 2011, playing a key role in the development of bedside and point-of-care ultrasound technology. Kathy's earlier experience includes roles as VP, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary at Metawave Communications, International Counsel at Alcatel N.V., and Counsel at EBRD. Kathy began their career as an Associate at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, a prominent international law firm.

Kathy Surace-Smith graduated from Princeton University in 1981 with a degree in Politics, Magna Cum Laude. Kathy then went on to attend Columbia Law School from 1981 to 1985, where they obtained their J.D. degree in Law. Additionally, Kathy studied International Law and Economics at the Geneva Graduate Institute from 1983 to 1984.
