Leigh McDowell is an Associate Professor at the Nara Institute of Science and Technology since April 2010, specializing in teaching scientific literacy and communication skills to English as an additional language (EAL) scientists, facilitating their engagement in international scientific communities. Prior to this role, Leigh served as an English language teacher at Nara University High School from April 2005 to March 2010, focusing on communicative language teaching and curriculum design. Earlier experience includes working as an English instructor and Assistant Trainer with the Nova Group in Japan from June 1999 to February 2005. Leigh holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Linguistics and a Master of Research in Applied Linguistics from Macquarie University, along with a Master of Science in Education in TESOL from Temple University Japan and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Food Science & Technology from RMIT University.
