Bret Bandick has extensive work experience in the fields of environmental health and safety, security administration, and employee relations. Bret is currently serving as the Environmental Health and Safety Director at the Nashville Zoo, where they manage various programs and ensures the safety of the public, employees, and animals. Bret spent many years working at the San Diego County Sheriff's office, holding various positions in the Detentions Bureau and the Human Resources Bureau.

In 1991, they attended the 9th Corrections Academy at San Diego County Sheriff. In 1994, they completed the 1st Reserve Firefighter Academy at Escondido Fire Department. Additionally, in 2005, they attended the Search & Rescue Academy at San Diego County Sheriff. Bret Bandick has received additional certifications as well, including being an On-line Instructor from Palomar College, obtained in August 2020, and being an Instructor for Stop the Bleed - Save a Life, obtained in July 2018.
