Marcelle Shoop

Director, Saline Lakes at National Audubon Society

Marcelle Shoop has a diverse work experience spanning several decades. Marcelle began their career in 1984 as a Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Ewing T. Kerr at the US District Court, District of Wyoming. In 1987, they joined Holland & Hart as an Associate Attorney.

In 1993, Marcelle transitioned to Rio Tinto, where they held various roles including Associate and Assistant General Counsel. Marcelle also served as the Director of Sustainable Development, where they promoted the adoption of sustainable development principles and established a public reporting program. Marcelle played a key role in directing Rio Tinto's US Federal and Regional Climate Change Strategy and developed policy positions and approaches to federal climate change legislation.

In 2014, Marcelle founded MfSA Consulting LLC, where they worked as an independent consultant to Rio Tinto, advising on corporate social and environmental responsibility, sustainability, and responsible business practices. Marcelle also focused on improving performance, external engagement, partnering strategies, public policy, and responsible supply chains.

Marcelle joined the National Audubon Society in 2017 as the Director of Saline Lakes. Marcelle led a multidisciplinary team in addressing key water-related challenges at Great Salt Lake and other saline lakes in the Intermountain West, with the aim of maintaining thriving ecosystems for birds, people, and economies.

Most recently, in 2021, Marcelle became a Board Member for Project WET: Water Education Today, further expanding their involvement in water-related initiatives.

Marcelle Shoop's education history includes a Juris Doctor degree in Law from the University of Wyoming College of Law. Additionally, they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in General Business Management from the University of Wyoming. The specific start and end years for both degrees are unavailable.
