Dane S. Claussen, Ph.D., MBA, serves as the Director of Research, Publications, and Professional Advancement for the National Communication Association since February 2023, where leadership involves advancing research and supporting members in academia and practice. Claussen's editorial experience includes roles as Editor-in-Chief and Executive Director for Nonprofit Sector News, as well as a copyeditor for the Online Media and Global Communication journal. Previous academic appointments feature teaching positions at the Institute for Shipboard Education and the University of Idaho, while also holding leadership roles such as Chair of the Department of Media, Communication & Public Relations at Thiel College. Claussen's expertise is backed by a Ph.D. in Mass Communication from The University of Georgia, an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and further degrees in Mass Communications and Print Journalism.
