National Democratic Institute
Mario Mitre is a Senior Advisor for Elections and Political Processes. Since 2005, he has collaborated with civic organizations on five continents to promote and protect the integrity of election processes through systematic, evidence based election observation, including Parallel Vote Tabulation, Sample Based Observation, Voter List Verifications and research on barriers to full citizens’ participation in election processes. He also has helped build consensus among citizen observation groups working together to advocate for electoral reform. In addition, Mario has supported NDI’s international pre-election monitoring delegations and the work of regional election observation networks in Asia, Europe and Latin America. He has contributed to the Institute’s global strategies on election observation, civil society empowerment, and political party strengthening. Throughout his work, Mario has placed a concerted emphasis on sustainability, helping to build the capacity of local partners to continue program activities independently of NDI. Currently based in Washington, he also has worked at NDI country offices in Colombia, Myanmar and Ukraine. Prior to joining NDI, Mario worked at Microsoft designing and testing internet and productivity tools. Mario speaks English, Spanish and French. He earned a B.S. in Computer Science from the Monterrey Institute of Technology in Mexico, and a Masters of International Affairs from Columbia University.
