Michael Knaggs has over 29 years of work experience, with roles in engineering and leadership positions at various organizations. Michael is currently serving as the Associate Director of Research Partnerships and Technology Transfer at the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL). Prior to this, they held roles at the U.S. Department of Energy, including Associate Director of Strategic Partnerships, Director of the Office of Major Demonstrations, Deputy Director of the Office of Major Demonstrations, and Director of the Fuels Division. Michael also worked as a Project Manager and Project Engineer, where they completed system design and field installation projects for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Before their time at the DOE, they worked as a Design Engineer at Hicks Equipment Co. and as a COOP-Engineer at the U.S. Department of Energy.

Michael Knaggs completed their Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from West Virginia University in 1990. Michael then went on to obtain a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the same university in 1994. In 1996, they also obtained a certification as a Registered Professional Engineer from the West Virginia State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
