Lisa Cates

Lisa Cates is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in the photography and outdoor education sectors. Currently serving as Executive Director and President of the New Orleans Photo Alliance since June 2017, Cates leads initiatives that enhance community engagement through photography, particularly in the Gulf South region. Simultaneously, Cates has been an Expedition Leader with National Geographic since May 2010, focusing on teaching photography and facilitating student learning during trips. Other notable roles include serving as an Expedition Leader for the Smithsonian Institution, a Coordinator for Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, and an Assistant to the Director at A Gallery For Fine Photography. Cates' background also includes emergency response as a Professional Patroller for Diamond Peaks Ski Patrol and foundational positions in photo editing and outdoor adventure guidance during studies at UCLA, where a BA in Geography/Environmental Studies was earned. Advanced education encompasses an Executive MBA from Quantic School of Business and Technology, along with Wilderness Medical Technician certifications from MEDIC SOLO.
