Elizabeth Lyon

Deputy Director, Africom NGA Support Team at National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency

Elizabeth Lyon has a diverse work experience in the field of geospatial intelligence and research. Elizabeth served as the Deputy Director of the AFRICOM NGA Support Team at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency from April 2021 to the present. Prior to that, they held roles such as Senior GEOINT Authority: Geography and Cartography, Research Scientist, and Special Assistant to the Deputy Director at the same organization.

Before joining the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, Elizabeth worked as a Research Geographer at the US Army Corps of Engineers from 2006 to May 2015. Elizabeth also served as a Visiting Research Fellow at KAPSARC in August 2014. In addition, they worked as a Geospatial Consultant at ACDI/VOCA in January 2010 and as a Statistics and Geographic Consultant at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from August 2004 to August 2006.

Elizabeth Lyon has a diverse education history. Elizabeth holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Geospatial Sciences from George Mason University, which they obtained from 2015 to 2026. In addition, they completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Computational Social Science from the same university between 2007 and 2012. Elizabeth Lyon also pursued a Master of Science (MS) degree in Geography from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign from 2003 to 2006. Elizabeth'sundergraduate education was at Augustana College, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Economics, French, Geography, and Math from 1999 to 2003. In 2020 and 2021, they attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology for a Seminar XXI program, but the field of study is unspecified.
