Chief Development Officer at National Institute for Reproductive Health/NIRH Action Fund

Shannon Carey has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of development and communications. Shannon started their career in 1994 as a Campaign Manager at the United Way of Miami-Dade and later moved to the United Way of Greater Atlanta in the same role. In 1999, they joined Girls Incorporated of Greater Atlanta as the VP of Development and PR, a position they held until 2003.

From 2003 to 2007, Shannon worked as the Director of External Affairs at The Atlanta Neighborhood Development Partnership. Following this, they served as the Chief Development and Communications Officer at the Urban League of Broward County from 2008 to 2011.

In 2012, Shannon became the Director of Development at the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA). In this role, they managed nationwide fundraising initiatives and supervised fundraising events and outreach in major cities. Shannon also oversaw $6.0mm in revenue and created new processes and procedures for financial operations.

Shannon's next role was as the Vice President of Development Operations at a local non-profit in 2015, where they were responsible for development operations. Later that year, they joined the Urban Resource Institute as the Vice President of Development and Communications, a position they held until 2018.

Shannon's most recent position is as the Chief Development Officer at the National Institute for Reproductive Health/NIRH Action Fund, which they have held since 2018.

Shannon Carey earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Indiana University Bloomington from 1989 to 1993.
