Sarah Gaines Barmeyer has a diverse work experience, with a focus on conservation and wildlife research. Sarah Gaines started their career as a Sea Turtle Research Assistant at the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Resources Division in 2000, where they monitored sea turtle nests and assessed hatchling success rates.
In 2001, they worked as a Sea Turtle Research Assistant at SEA TURTLE CONSERVANCY, INC., where they executed fieldwork for a sea turtle research program, evaluating the survival status, migration patterns, and reproductive ecology of various sea turtle species.
From 2001 to 2002, they served as a Right Whale Aerial Observer at Wildlife Trust, and in 2002, they became the Water Issues Coordinator at the Georgia Wildlife Federation. In this role, they built and organized the Georgia Water Coalition, recruited diverse organizations, and synthesized their input into executive reports.
Since 2010, Sarah has been working at the National Parks Conservation Association, initially as the Deputy Vice President of Conservation Programs. Their responsibilities include providing leadership and guidance on conservation initiatives, developing strategic and program plans, and managing cross-departmental teams focused on water restoration and other conservation efforts.

Sarah Gaines Barmeyer received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from The University of the South in the years 1996 to 2000. In 1999, they also obtained a Certificate in Kenya Coastal Studies from the School for International Training. Later, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Conservation Ecology and Sustainable Development from The University of Georgia from 2003 to 2006.
