James Gahan is a Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor at the University of Galway since April 2024. Previous positions include serving as a Sir Henry Wellcome Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Oxford and the University of California, San Francisco from February 2022 to April 2024. Gahan's research primarily focuses on the model organism Hydractinia, a member of the phylum Cnidaria. Prior to this, Gahan worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Sars International Center from January 2017 to March 2022 and completed a PhD in Stem Cell Biology at NUI Galway from October 2012 to December 2016. Gahan also has a Master’s degree in Biotechnology and a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from University College Cork, supplemented by previous experience as a general assistant at Omniplex cinema and as a laboratory demonstrator.
